The exhibition Ngọc Linh Ginseng and Cultural Heritage of Kon Tum will open on Sunday at the National Museum of History in Hà Nội and run until the end of the year.

Nguyễn Văn Bình, director of the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said the exhibition will include installation art, photos, documents, objects and videos introducing the cultural heritage of the province.

On display includes costumes, festivals, musical instruments, tools and cultural and religious activities.

A highlight of the exhibition is Ngọc Linh ginseng, its environment, function and products, Bình said at a press conference on Thursday in Hà Nội.

“The exhibition is a response to the direction of Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc when he visited Kon Tum Province last year. He wants Ngọc Linh ginseng to become a national brand the country can be proud of,” said Bình.

“The Prime Minister called Ngọc Linh ginseng as a national treasure, and said planting gingsengs could help create jobs and contribute to the State budget.”

“Actually, the plants help create jobs for many local people, especially the Xơ Đăng ethnic people.”

Vietnamese ginseng is a rare medical root containing 52 healthy saponin compounds. It was found on Ngọc Linh Mountain on the boundary between Kon Tum and Quảng Nam in the late 1960s.

The ginseng has been clinically proven to have anti-stress and anti-ageing effects. It helps improve immunity, enhance liver function and lower cholesterol. Besides, it also works well with antibiotics and diabetes medications. — VNS
